Looking to the hills like they’ll burst into flames Writing off the future like it’s already blank Nothing gets through here Nothing is true here Sinking into ruts that were already there Feeding into fears that these days have laid bare This season feels endless When will you end this? You strike a match against the dark Illuminate what’s in my heart I’m frozen in place beneath their weight You’re cutting out the noise but I’m still half-deaf Strip away distractions and I’m scared of what’s left I’m kind of exposed here But you’re drawing me closer You lead me through the wilderness to see who I am Pulling out the carpet from under my plans I only know how to earn it myself You say I can live off the words from your mouth You strike a match against the dark Illuminate what’s in my heart I’m frozen in place beneath their weight I’m frozen in place Would you give me the strength to fall on your grace On this journey of faith Would you train my eyes to seek your face You strike a match against the dark Illuminate what’s in my heart I’m finding my place I’m seeking your voice in the wilderness You say fall on my grace I can’t do it myself but I’m learning through faith I will see your face in the wilderness

Spirit of power, spirit of truth Would you take us Out from the darkness that we cling to, Would you change us? Would you break our hearts for you? We are re-created in you You are turning lives back to truth Children of mercy, objects of grace You entrust us Bearing your witness, holding your name Will you use us? Would you send us out for you? We are re-created in you You are turning lives back to truth You reach us in the dark I’m living on empty You teach us who we are We’re finding ourselves in you Will you steal our hearts for you? Can a broken life be new? We are re-created in you You are turning lives back to truth You reach us in the dark I’m living on empty You teach us who we are We’re finding ourselves in you

My mind is a labyrinth of hidden motives And my heart has built up many walls But you, you see through all things All your work sings it back to you They call out nothing is hidden, all is forgiven Your love breaks down the walls that confine us This earth is a mirror shining back your glory And I long to wipe the dust away But you, you see through all things Where could we run to ever leave your love behind? We call out nothing is hidden, all is forgiven Your love breaks down the walls that confine us I’ve been waiting all my life to step into the light And not be scared of what it shows Your love illuminates my heart, it lays down all my cards And wipes away the guilt and shame And I’ve been waiting all my life to finally see a light Brighter than the things I hide Your love makes us free We call out nothing is hidden, all is forgiven Your love breaks down the walls that confine us

I never found your blog The hidden pieces of your heart On New Year’s Eve I said hello You called to tell me it was over And if I regret one thing, it's just for staying on the surface And if I learned one thing, it's that everyone has secrets You closed the door but cracked a window And I swear that I saw As far as the light filtered through Your heart will always be a secret But I had a window view And now I don’t know what to do I never found your blog I heard you wrote about our first date On the bench outside the bar Around the fire where you sat in water And if I regret one thing, it’s for thinking everything’s a sign And if I learned one thing, it’s that coincidences can make us blind You closed the door but cracked a window And I swear that I saw As far as the light filtered through Your heart will always be a secret But I had a window view And now I don’t know what to do You’re in my phone as just a first name It seemed to formal to add your last The slice of your life that I saw Was very brief but I want to believe That it meant something to you Now your number’s in my phone and my Christmas card is somewhere in your home I often wonder if you threw it out I often wonder if its still in your house You closed the door but cracked a window And I swear that I saw As far as the light filtered through Your heart will always be a secret But I had a window view And now I don’t know what to do

about

As social distancing and separation dragged on during the COVID-19 pandemic, I was struggling to find any meaning in it. I eventually started to think of this time as a sort of wilderness, and with that, the started to see the opportunities for self-reflection and growth come with wandering in the wild.

As an added bonus, the time at home gave me a chance to record a few songs for the first time, so without further ado: enjoy!
